Our Story

Chilango heart,
expat soul.

¡Hola! We are Masha and Diego, a Mexican by heart and a Mexican by birth. We met years ago in the city and bonded over our shared entrepreneurial spirit.

With so many visitors landing in Mexico City for the World Cup, we kept talking about how much we wanted them to live the same incredible moments we share here with our friends. That is how Unfold was born.

So we put together our favorite places, our favorite people and our favorite restaurants. We collaborate with them directly, so you get to experience our beloved city like a local.

Between the two of us, we speak English, Spanish, Dutch, French and Russian — so whichever language your group is most comfortable in, we've got you covered.

Mini dictionary

Speak a little chilango.

A few words you'll hear all weekend. Now you'll know what they mean.

CDMX

Ciudad de México. The capital. 22 million people, 2,240 meters above sea level, and the best tacos in the world.

Chilango

/chi·lan·go/

Someone born or living in CDMX. Loud, proud, always late, always hungry. Diego is one.

Trajinera

/tra·hi·ne·ra/

A brightly painted flat-bottom boat in Xochimilco. Add micheladas, mariachis and friends, and you have a party on water.

Lucha Libre

/lu·cha li·bre/

Mexican wrestling with masks, capes and storylines. Boo the rudo, cheer the técnico, never sit still.

Mezcal

/mez·cal/

Tequila's smokier, older cousin. Made from roasted agave, sipped slowly, paired with orange and worm salt.

Axolotl

/a·xo·lo·tl/

A tiny smiling salamander native to Xochimilco that can regrow its limbs. Officially the cutest animal in Mexico.

Michelada

/mi·che·la·da/

Beer with lime, hot sauce, spices and a salty chili rim. Breakfast of champions on a Sunday afternoon.

Tacos al Pastor

/ta·cos al pas·tor/

Marinated pork spun on a vertical spit with a pineapple on top. Shaved onto a tiny tortilla. The CDMX taco.
